Overview
Soils/Land - We can maintain and improve Wisconsin’s agricultural production and income, guide urban development, build necessary roads, create economic growth and at the same time conserve our precious soil if we consider the limitations and potential of the land when making land use decisions. To use each acre appropriately, we need to know something about the soil and the characteristics that affect its use and management, such as suitability for crops, pastures, woodlands, and wildlife. If the land is not to be used for agriculture, then factors such as slopes, suitability for septic systems, and water tables need to be considered in great detail.

Homesite- The FFA Homesite Evaluation Contest is a Career Development Event (CDE) where students assess soil and land characteristics to determine a site's suitability for residential development, septic systems, and urban use. Participants evaluate soil properties like texture, slope, drainage, and flooding hazards to make structural and planning recommendations.
