5/7/19 2019 Chapter Grants Awarded by the Wisconsin FFA Foundation
MADISON, Wis. [May 7, 2019] – The Wisconsin FFA Foundation has awarded its 2019 Chapter Grants, which continue to support activities within Wisconsin Association of FFA chapters statewide. These funds are used to positively impact individual FFA members, chapter needs, as well as community programs.
New in 2019, the AgCountry Farm Credit Services chapter grant was awarded to Granton FFA. The chapter will be using the funds move forward with a Farm to Table program by updating its greenhouse and also buying planting supplies to grow produce to then donate back to the school. The chapter will be working alongside the Granton Green Team, a local organization of community members who volunteer at the school.
“This program will offer work opportunities for high school students to take on managerial roles in the greenhouse,” says Katie Reider, Granton FFA advisor and agricultural education instructor. “Learning materials will be developed and fourth-grade students will be involved in the program throughout the school year.”
The Wisconsin FFA Foundation also awarded other chapter grants to FFA chapters throughout the state, due to continuing program support from longtime benefactors.
A grant from the Burton H. Morris estate was bestowed upon the Adams-Friendship FFA Chapter. Morris, an FFA and agricultural education supporter in Adams County, passed in 2016 and has left funds in his will for chapters who have students within the county limits.
The Tigerton and Brookwood FFA Chapters each received a Wisconsin FFA Convention Chapter Grant. This program was established by the WAXX/Wisconsin Farm Report Network with Pam Jahnke to help members attend the upcoming Wisconsin FFA Convention in Madison.
Granton FFA and the River Valley FFA Chapters are the recipients of the Community Service grant, available because of generous donations to the Bethany L. Rieth Memorial Fund. This fund was established in the Past State FFA Officer’s honor after her sudden passing in February 2016.
Two chapters, Unity and River Valley FFA, are this year’s recipients of Food for America grants, once again funded by the Wisconsin FFA Foundation’s long-time Two-Star Mission Partner, Organic Valley/CROPP Cooperative, Inc.
